Announcing webOSdev

Comments (16)

I’m very pleased to announce that effective today we are wrapping up the webOS early access program. We are doing this because today we opened up the program to everyone and released our new public developer portal at http://developer.palm.com. This is the culmination of a lot of hard work by a lot of people here at Palm, and I want to be the first to thank them for making this happen.

This is one more step in delivering webOS to all developers and providing the tools they need to build great applications for Palm phones.

Please go register and join us on the new server. For a change this significant, I’m sure there are going to be some rough edges and broken links. If you run into one, please let us know by posting on the new forums. If you have trouble registering or can’t access the forums for some reason then please email me at pdn@palm.com and I’ll work with you to resolve it.

  4. The activation email you receive when you sign up to download the sdk has a broken activation link.

Here is a copy/paste of the relevant parts of the mail:

Many thanks for your interest in the Palm® Mojo™ Software Development Kit (SDK). We have validated your email address, and you can now download the SDK.

To do so, click the following link, or copy and paste the URL below into the address field in your browser:

    #INTERPRET:EVENTVAR:TOKENTEXT#

On the page that appears, you’ll be able to select the version of the SDK that’s right for you. You’ll also see a list of software required to use the SDK; be sure to install it first. Also, follow the links to installation information for specific instructions to install the SDK. You should also familiarize yourself with the material on the webOSdev web site, which will help you develop your webOS applications. Use the webOSdev forum to tell us what more you need.

  9. Ok, so since I can’t find a way to login on the site/forum of WebOS dev site, I’m posting it here…

When registering to download the SDK, I entered my firstname, lastname and email, that’s it.

When trying to login it to post a message on the forum, it asks me for a:

    - password

    => where do I get these ? :)

Guess there is something wrong there…

  10. Thank you. There’s a problem with the community/forum link – an “infinite loop” error.

  11. YESSSSSSS!
    THANK YOU!

I’ve been developing an app without benefit of offically having access to the SDK or API docs.
And yes, it does work already on my Palm Pre.

I’ve made plenty of progress (got a working app) but it was slow going, even with the rough cuts version of the O’Reilly book.

I now have answers to many of the questions I’ve had, and I can tell you the release of the SDK/API docs will *greatly* accelerate my development efforts.

By the end of this weekend, I should have a working app ( hint – it’s a WebOS optimized port of a commonly known game )

So, here’s a question I can’t seem to find the answer to on the developer site:

Who do I contact and how do I get in the pipeline for releasing my first app through the Palm App Catalog?

  12. Took some time, but now things look good. A few broken links, but I was up and testing the emulator with my own application in about an hour.

  13. Registration worked great for me, and I already have started work on my Pre apps. I’m sure that there will be need for updates to the SDK, but great job getting it into the hands of your developers!

  15. The main page for webOSdev includes a link to preview Chapter 1 of Mitch Allen’s book, “Palm WebOS”. The links for pages 2 and 6 appear to be unique, yet the result is the same “User Interface” page. Are we missing the “real” topic for page 6?
